FROM THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

  • SUPERINTENDENT Heather Cordie

Dear Parents and Community Members,

During the 2013-2014 school year, all Sherwood Schools received an Overall State Rating of either a Level 4 or a Level 5, based on a 1 to 5 scale.  Our teachers, classified staff, and administrators deserve great praise for maintaining strong student achievement during challenging economic times.

While we are very proud of the success of our students, we strive for continuous improvement.  During the Fall of 2014, we plan to develop a strategic plan that will guide our work going forward.  This plan will align all of our efforts and bring focus to our schools.

Over the past three years, we have focused on three main initiatives: 1) implementation of a proficiency-based model of teaching and learning, 2) integration of instructional technology, 3) a smooth transition to the Common Core State Standards.  To successfully implement these initiatives, not only have we strategically allocated financial resources in targeted areas, but our School Improvement Plans, district and building-level professional development, and the individual goals identified by teachers and administrators have been carefully aligned.

Bringing focus to our work has proven successful for Sherwood Schools and developing a strategic plan is the next logical step in that process.

Thank you,
Superintendent Heather Cordie

FEDERAL TITLE I DESIGNATION

Priority and Focus school designations were based on 2011-12 data. Model school designations were based on 2013-14 data.

  Priority Focus Model
Number of Elementary Schools 0 0 0
Number of Middle Schools 0 0 0
Number of High Schools 0 0 0

Priority Schools are high poverty schools that were ranked in the bottom 5% of Title I-A schools in the state based on Oregon’s rating formula. These schools generally have overall very low achievement and limited growth over time. Additional supports and interventions to make improvements are needed.

Focus Schools are high poverty schools that were ranked in the bottom 5% -15% of Title I-A schools in the state with a significant achievement gap based on Oregon’s rating formula. These schools need additional support in closing the achievement gap among historically underserved student populations.

Model Schools are high poverty schools that were ranked in the top 5% of Title I-A schools in the state based on Oregon’s rating formula. These schools serve as models of successful student outcomes.

This data is part of the Open Books Project. It is not part of the Oregon Report Card.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION

These numbers reflect audited school district operating expenditures from 2012-2013 provided to the Oregon Department of Education. Included are expenditures of funds from federal, state, and local sources, including local option property taxes and private sources (i.e. nonprofit foundations). Capital project expenditures are not included - learn more about your district's capital spending here.
