Dear Parents and Community Members,

While the Oregon State Report Card is an important measure of how schools are performing, it does not always accurately reflect the progress students are making at a particular school.  At OCSLA, our mission is to provide high levels of support for our students in the areas of credit recovery, attendance, and strong routines and procedures.  As a result of our mission, many of the students that enroll at OCSLA have fallen behind in their credits and academic achievement prior to enrolling at OCSLA.  This past year, our school demonstrated outstanding growth in the number of students achieving greater academic success, especially in the areas of credits earned and attendance.

We also provide many opportunities for those who are high achievers academically and are looking for a smaller school where they can build strong relationships with the staff and other students and take advantage of the academic enrichment opportunities found at OCSLA. These opportunities include service projects, internships with local businesses, our community garden, before and after school programs, and Clackamas Community College courses.  Over 100 students earned Clackamas Community College credits during the 2013-2014 school year.

The information provided in this report card will help us create a challenging and rewarding experience for each student in a safe school environment. Working with you, we seek to meet each child’s needs so he or she graduates ready for success after high school. As a parent of a high school student, your role in your child’s education is still very important. We encourage you to continue to monitor your student’s homework/ParentVue and attend parent teacher conferences.

Communication with staff is important, so please contact your child’s teachers or the principal when you have questions or would like an update regarding your child’s progress. As always, please be in touch with any information that will help us better serve your student.

Thank you,
Principal Tim Graham

OVERALL STATE RATING

HOW ARE STUDENTS AT THIS SCHOOL PERFORMING COMPARED TO THOSE AT OTHER SCHOOLS?

The overall state rating is intended to summarize this school's particular successes and challenges. It is based on a combination of up to five factors. Three of these factors come from standardized test scores in reading and math: student achievement, student growth, and the growth of underserved subgroups. High schools are also rated on the overall graduation rate for the school and the graduation rates of underserved subgroups. Please be aware that this rating is based mainly on high-stakes testing and accordingly, represents a limited view of student performance. Other aspects of this report card are designed to put this rating in the proper context.

Compared to all schools statewide in 2013-14, this school is rated as Level 2.

FEDERAL TITLE I DESIGNATION

Priority

Focus

Model

Priority and Focus school designations were based on 2011-12 data. Model school designations were based on 2013-14 data.

Priority Schools are high poverty schools that were ranked in the bottom 5% of Title I-A schools in the state based on Oregon’s rating formula. These schools generally have overall very low achievement and limited growth over time. Additional supports and interventions to make improvements are needed.
